BACKGROUND:\u00a0The life sized bronze, Joie de Vivre<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0along with sculptures\u00a0by 14 other artists,\u00a0had been\u00a0juried into an art loan program<\/a> to be displayed for one year at Percival Landing in Olympia.\u00a0 After the installation of the sculptures, visitors to the site had the opportunity to vote for their favorite.<\/p>\n

Last week, the Arts Commission of Olympia <\/a>reviewed the results of the popular vote, and recommended Joie de Vivre<\/em><\/strong> by David Varnau to City Council <\/a>for purchase.\u00a0 The text from the staff report follows:<\/p>\n

“A total of 269 votes were received during the voting period from visitors from\u00a011 states.\u00a0<\/em>With 84 votes,\u00a0Joie de Vivre<\/strong>\u00a0by David Varnau was front runner…. Voters for\u00a0Joie de Vivre<\/strong>\u00a0spoke to the sense of joy, freedom, and carefree childhood conveyed in the sculpture, and more than a few recommended permanent placement at the Heritage Park Fountain.”<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
